Nanowie Bridge Early Morning Habitat for Humanity
Nanowie Bridge Early MorningA Volunteer team from Habitat for Humanity working to help clear a property at Wandong in November 2011. The elderly couple needed help with clearing trees, brush-cutting along fence lines and restoring the overgrown garden. The team included corporates, groups and individual volunteers who gave up their time at the weekend to help.
Habitat Brush with KindnessVehicle Burnt During Fires
In August 2011 the largest Habitat 'Brush with Kindness' team to-date visited 2 neighbouring properties at Clonbinane to help clear fallen and dead trees, with log splitting and brush-cutting work. Nearly 60 volunteers worked to help both families in the re-building process. At a Habitat 'Brush with Kindness' project on Doctor's Creek Road at Clonbinane I saw a vehicle that had been burnt in the bushfires. The heat was enough to melt the windscreen and destroy the vehicle, yet on one corner the paint and rubber tyres were still intact. It highlighted to me how fast and random the fire caused such devastation on that day.
Wissel Family LeafCauldron
The Wissell Family are part of the Tree Project. A fabulous initiative, which 'is a symbol of remembrance for the lives lost and for the people who fought to save lives. It is also a monument to renewal and to the spirit of fraternity that springs from skilled blacksmiths across Australia and around the world' (The Australian Blacksmiths Association, 2009). www.treeproject.abavic.org.auCauldron

December 20125th Anniversary New Growth on Tree
It's the smallest things that bring the greatest joy.As a Trauma Counsellor working with residents of Kinglake and Marysville one important component of their recovery was believing in hope. Hope meant many things to different people, such as being able to move on, make it through the next day, believing life would return to normal in the future etc. This picture for me meant devastation and hope in the here and now which is depicted by the green shoot on the blackened tree trunk.
